Friday Ride

Middle Road and North

A fine day for a ride–mid 40s, sunny, headwinds. The bike is in desperate need of maintenance–the bottom bracket creaks, the chain is getting a fine coating of rust, and my rear derailleur pulleys sound like I have a nest of baby birds sitting on the rear wheel. If all goes as planned, I’ll have a “racing” wheelset in a week or two–I’m getting a Bontrager front wheel from Dave, and I’ll tune up the Velo-Max Ascent sitting in my basement. Those, coupled with narrower tires, should made the bike feel like a rocket, or something.

I’m also consider switching back to MTB shoes and pedals. I have a pair very nice Adidas adiStar Ultras, but they are a bit uncomfortable, and I don’t dig waddling around with Shimano cleats (which are, by the way, better than waddling around in Speedplay cleats). Perhaps I can find a trading partner…..
